Join vocalist and bassist Mousumi Datta and her collective for a captivating live show that weaves together Indian classical, jazz, and contemporary musical traditions.
Driven by a shared pursuit of sound rather than style, this collaborative jazz fusion performance has vocalist and bassist Mousumi Datta at its heart. Rooted in Khayal and semi-classical forms, and enriched by her bass playing, she crafts a set that is both compositionally intricate and rhythmically fluid.
Datta is joined by guitarist Subid Khan, a Mumbai-based musician known for his work in Afrobeat, neo-soul, and hip-hop collectives; sarod player Swarnendu, a senior scholar at ITC SRA and a regular on classical and festival stages; and violinist Yadnesh Raikar, a prodigious soloist trained in both Hindustani and Carnatic traditions, recently featured in Rolling Stone’s Future of Music list.
Also part of the ensemble are pianist Deivat Tapodhan, whose self-taught jazz-rooted style draws from cinematic and contemporary soundscapes; and drummer Shikhar Naad, a third-generation percussionist continuing the rhythmic legacy of Ustad Allarakha and Ustad Zakir Hussain through his work on drums and djembe.
Together, the group doesn’t just blend genres – they allow them to coexist. The music shifts seamlessly between arrangement and improvisation, giving space to thumri, funk, ragas, and rhythm breaks without blurring their unique character. This is fusion without formula – an open-ended, live conversation among artists who listen as much as they play.
