Jose Agudo leads with a powerful blend of Flamenco and Kathak in this evocative dance-theatre piece inspired by the ancient Silk Road.
This striking dance-theatre production is choreographed and performed by Jose Agudo, known for his dynamic blend of Flamenco and contemporary movement. Inspired by the historic Silk Road, the work draws on the journeys of pilgrims, monks, traders, and nomads who once travelled from China to the Iberian Peninsula—exchanging not just goods, but rituals, beliefs, and traditions. Agudo transforms this cultural passage into movement, exploring how identity and memory shift through migration and exchange.
Guest choreographers Rafael Amargo and Nahid Siddiqui bring elements of Flamenco and Kathak into the choreography, deepening the work’s cross-cultural dialogue. Performed with guest dancer Kenny Wing Tao Ho, and accompanied by an atmospheric score composed by Giuliano Modarelli, Bernhard Schimpelsberger, and Vincenzo Lamagna, the piece unfolds as a layered and physical meditation on transition.
Lighting by Jackie Shemesh, adapted for Indian audiences by Niranjan Gokhale, enhances the emotional range of the work—making ‘Silk Road’ not just a performance, but a journey through ritual, movement, and memory.
The production is supported by a stellar team, including Kimie Nakano (costume design), Claire Cunningham (executive producer & rehearsal director), Mruga J Shrof (artist management in India), Lara Davidson (technical management & relighting), and Nick Atkins (sound engineering). Together, they help bring this rich, cross-cultural production to life!
