Be mesmerised by Padma Bhushan Begum Parveen Sultana in an unforgettable evening of khayal, thumri, and bhajan – woven together with classical mastery.
A voice that has shaped generations, Begum Parveen Sultana stands among the most revered figures in Indian Classical music. Her presence has defined decades of Hindustani Classical performances, and her return to the stage promises an evening of rare depth and mastery. A recipient of both Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan, she is celebrated for her nearly four-octave range, emotional clarity, and a musical brilliance that shines through iconic renderings like ‘Humein Tumse Pyaar Kitna’ (Kudrat), ‘Aan Milo Sajana’ (Gadar EK Prem Katha), and ‘Kaun Gali’ (Pakeezah), among others.
The concert features a selection of khayal, thumri, and devotional bhajans—genres she has made her own through years of rigorous training and intuitive expression. Each raga becomes a space for reflection and feeling, guided by her distinctive taankari and lyrical finesse. For connoisseurs and new listeners alike, this is a chance to experience an artist whose voice transcends form.
Born into a musical family of Afghan heritage, Parveen Sultana was recognised as a prodigy from a young age. She trained under Pandit Chinmoy Lahiri, drawing from multiple gharanas, and later toured extensively with her husband and fellow vocalist, Dilshad Khan. Her career spans continents and styles, always grounded in a devotion to classical purity.
She will be accompanied by Mithilesh Jha on tabla and Shrinivas Acharya on harmonium, two seasoned musicians whose nuanced support brings a rich, balanced backdrop to her performance. Together, they offer more than a concert—a moment of listening shaped by tradition, artistry, and presence.
This performance is supported by Reliance Foundation.
