Young maestros Anirban Roy and Pradyumn Karpur take centre stage with a soulful flute and tabla recital that celebrates purity, promise, and the spirit of Indian classical music.
There’s something deeply moving about watching young artists bring such honesty and focus to a classical stage. In this instrumental recital, 15-year-old Anirban Roy on bansuri and Pradyumn Karpur on tabla come together for an evening of melody, rhythm, and quiet brilliance.
The performance begins with a solo raga on the bamboo flute—gentle, fluid, and full of feeling. Anirban’s music carries surprising depth for someone his age, shaped by years of learning under his father and guru, Lokenath Roy of the Mihar Gharana. He’s been performing since he was five and has also received guidance from stalwarts such as Pt. Tajendra Narayan Majumder. As the raga unfolds, Pradyumn joins in with nuanced tabla accompaniment—bringing energy, structure, and a spontaneous spark that lifts the entire experience.
Together, they create a space where tradition feels alive and deeply personal. Fittingly titled ‘Swarankur’, meaning ‘the sprouting of melody’, this performance is a beautiful reminder of how the next generation is carrying classical music forward.
