Set in Haryana, Manasi Bhawalkar’s Hindi stage adaptation of Fyodor Dostoevsky’s short story follows a man’s descent into despair and his quiet return to hope.
This adaptation of Russian literary giant Fyodor Dostoevsky’s ‘The Dream of a Ridiculous Man’ is nothing like you have seen or imagined. For one, it’s set in the hinterlands of Haryana. Like in the original tale, it follows the life of a man who believes that nothing in the world holds meaning. Consumed by despair and convinced that life is pointless, he decides to end his own—until a fleeting encounter with a young girl alters the course of his inner world. What begins as a collapse turns into quiet transformation, as he rediscovers empathy, hope, and the possibility of connection.
Directed by Manasi Bhawalkar and performed by Ravi Kalra, ‘Boli Gaind Ka Supna’ is a poignant exploration of the inscrutable fever dream that is life, and man’s endless attempt to understand it.
