Blending Bharatanatyam and Bombeyaata puppetry, choreographer Divya Hoskere and puppeteer Prakruti Hoskere bring the story of Rukmini and Krishna to life through craft and movement.
Conceptualised and choreographed by Bharatanatyam artiste Divya Hoskere, this dance theatre brings together classical dance and Karnataka’s Bombeyaata puppetry in a visually layered production. Created in collaboration with puppeteer Prakruti Hoskere and Dhaatu Puppet Theater, the performance reimagines Rukmini’s journey through a unique rod puppet—the koravanji—who predicts her future using subtle, eye-tracked movement.
The story unfolds as Princess Rukmini dreams of Krishna and sees a painting of him come to life. The vision is so powerful that it sets her heart and destiny in motion. Her world begins to fill with signs and symbols, leading to a turning point when the koravanji reveals what lies ahead. Through expressive abhinaya, vibrant puppetry, and finely crafted staging, the production travels through love, prophecy, and divine purpose.
Divya Hoskere is a graded Doordarshan artiste and a research scholar at the National Institute of Advanced Studies, Bengaluru, where she is pursuing her PhD in Bharatanatyam and Alankarasapstra under the UGC’s Junior Research Fellowship. She is also a lead puppeteer at Dhaatu Puppet Theater, founded by her mother, Padma Shri and Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee Anupama Hoskere. In this collaboration with Prakruti Hoskere, Divya brings together a rare confluence of classical technique, folk tradition, and storytelling innovation.
