Enter the rhythmic world of Cuban music with this exciting workshop by award-winning percussionist Rodney Barreto.
Whether you are a drummer, a percussion enthusiast or just someone who loves to sway to the beats, this workshop will take you through the vibrant world of Cuba’s musical language.
Led by Rodney Barreto – an award-winning drummer from a family with a long musical tradition – the workshop unravels as an interactive session, where music lovers will be introduced to some timeless Cuban rhythms, as well as those of particular interest to the participants. The session explores the history and evolution of these rhythms, their interpretation in percussion, and the various ways they are executed. But what makes the workshop truly come alive is a series of fun exercises and examples that enable participants to grasp the language of interpretation and improvisation. The class will also delve into the Cuban clave in its two variants, which forms the heart of this exciting journey.
Rodney Barreto brings to the mix a rich musical heritage which includes his great-uncle Alberto Barreto, who composed songs for singers like Benny More, as well as his uncle Julio César Barreto, an excellence in Cuban percussion. An illustrious drumming career that started at the age 16 has led the critically-acclaimed musician around the globe – currently placing him in Milan, where he performs at jazz clubs and festivals with multiple groups including El Comité. Rodney Barreto is known for conducting immersive classes and seminars around the world.
