Watch Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee Mahesh Elkunchwar’s final play in the ‘Wada Chirebandi’ trilogy—spanning poignant themes of family, memory, and what remains after loss.
Spanning generations and following the slow breakup of a once-close joint family, Mahesh Elkunchwar’s 'Wada Chirebandi' trilogy is a milestone in Indian theatre. What begins with family tensions in 'Wada Chirebandi', continues through the changing relationships of 'The Pond’, eventually reaching its final chapter in 'Yugant'—a quiet and moving reflection on memory, loss, and the ties that still hold people together.
Set in a drought-hit village in Maharashtra, the story follows Parag, Nandini, and their son Bal—now the only ones left in their old family home. When cousin Abhay returns from Sweden, and their uncle Chandu wanders back after years away, the family comes together again—but things have changed. Through their quiet conversations, the play looks at how time, grief, and distance shape us, and asks what we really leave behind for those who come next.
Directed by Gerish Khemani and translated into Hindi by Akhshay Gandhi, 'Yugant' features performances by Ajinkya Ovhal, Barkha Fatnani, Hrishabh Kanti, and Jaymin Thakkar.
