Witness Carnatic flute virtuoso J.A. Jayant’s soulful recital, blending tradition and innovation.
Opening the Margazhi Festival, J.A. Jayant, a gifted young maestro of the Carnatic flute, will present a mesmerising recital that showcases both his flair and emotional depth. Trained under the guidance of his grandfather, the late T.S. Sankaran, Jayant began performing at the age of seven and has since emerged as one of India’s leading flutists. With over 1,800 solo and jugalbandi performances around the globe, he is renowned for his mastery of intricate ragas and exceptional ability to express the nuanced beauty of Carnatic music.
Over the course of his distinguished career, Jayant has graced the stages of renowned international venues such as Paris's Théâtre de la Ville, Morocco's Fes Festival, and the UK's Darbar Festival. His dedication to the flute, combined with his global presence, has earned him recognition as a true ambassador of Indian classical music. His recital at the Margazhi Festival is expected to be a deeply moving experience — rich in melody and cultural resonance — offering a window into the soul of Carnatic tradition. Joining him on stage will be N C Bharadwaj on Mridangam and Vazhapally Krishnakumar on Ghatam, further elevating the performance with their mastery.
The Margazhi Festival, held annually during the Tamil month of Margazhi, celebrates the timeless depth of Carnatic music while embracing innovation. Hosted by NMACC, the 2024 edition of the festival brings together both emerging talents and celebrated masters, providing Mumbai audiences with an opportunity to experience the best of this classical art form. Jayant’s performance promises to be an inspiring journey through South Indian classical music, where the sacred and the contemporary harmonize to create something unique and powerful.
