Step into a day in the life of Salma, a spirited woman balancing the challenges of early marriage and domestic responsibilities, in the satirical play ‘Salma Deewani’. Written, directed, and performed by Bhagyashree Tarke, this one-hour performance offers a playful yet poignant exploration of themes such as loneliness, fan obsession, and societal expectations.
Salma seeks solace in her unwavering admiration for Bollywood star Salman Khan, using her fandom as an escape from the monotony of daily chores. The play skillfully blends absurdity with realism, engaging the audience through interactive storytelling and vivid imagery.
Tarke, an alumna of the National School of Drama, has taken ‘Salma Deewani’ across diverse stages, from Delhi and Hyderabad to the renowned International Theatre Festival of Kerala in 2020. With its sharp wit and thought-provoking narrative, this performance offers a compelling and entertaining lens on the intricate realities of womanhood and the societal expectations that shape it.
