Embark on a journey of love, illusion, and unity as Amrita Lahiri and Chandana Bala Kalyan bring together Kuchipudi and Carnatic music with poetic depth.
‘Mandala’ is a powerful dialogue between dance and music, exploring universal themes of love, separation, illusion, and unity. Choreographed by Leela Samson, the performance brings together Kuchipudi artist Amrita Lahiri and Carnatic vocalist Chandana Bala Kalyan, who weave the poetry of saint-poets like Kabir, Annamacharya, and Kanakadasa into their expressive artistry.
Guided by the message that life’s joys and struggles are fleeting, the performance immerses audiences in the present moment while reflecting on the impermanence of existence. The journey unfolds through Shringara (love) and Viraha (separation), ultimately reaching Aikya (oneness) — the realisation of unity at our core.
Lahiri, acclaimed for her refined and dynamic Kuchipudi style, presents each movement with classical precision and modern appeal. Kalyan’s versatile vocals seamlessly blend classical, folk, and contemporary styles, adding emotional depth to the poetry. Together, they guide audiences through a cycle of human experience that is both deeply personal and universally resonant, making ‘Mandala’ a journey of introspection and spiritual insight.
