Blending social themes with modern dance, this evening explores the pressing issues of food scarcity and urbanisation through inventive choreography.
Drawing inspiration from the pulse of today’s social and political landscapes, 'Exordium’ reimagines modern Indian dance with a bold, contemporary twist. Directed by award-winning choreographer Vishwakiran Nambi, the production features two distinct pieces: Yele Oota (Grand Meal) and Jaaga Illa (Lack of Space), each capturing unique challenges of modern life.
Yele Oota examines humanity’s response to food scarcity, a theme amplified during the COVID crisis. Through intricate movements and expressive compositions, it conveys the shared struggles and responsibilities within communities. Jaaga Illa addresses the effects of rapid urbanisation, portraying the loss of personal space in densely populated cities. Performed on a small wooden box, the piece symbolises the constraints and pressures of city life.
Performed by members of the Vishwakiran Nambi Dance Company, ‘Exordium’ features music by Gopu Krishnan, lyrics by Kiran Kaverappa, and costumes by Sumukha P. Tamankar.
