Through evocative ragas and rare compositions, Shashwati Mandal brings alive the seasons and festivals that shape India’s cultural calendar.
From the blossoms of spring to the rains of monsoon and the festivities of winter, Indian music has long mirrored the rhythms of its seasons and celebrations. In this special program, vocalist Shashwati traces that journey through ragas and compositions that capture the mood of each season, alongside semi-classical forms like Kajari, Hori, Rasiya, Jhoola, and Sawani, reflecting the joy of festivals across the country.
A distinguished exponent of the Gwalior style of khayal, Shashwati carries a rich musical legacy as the granddaughter of Pt. Balabhau Umdekar ‘Kundal Guru’, the former court musician of Gwalior. Trained by her mother, Smt. Kamal Umdekar Mandal, and further mentored in the Tappa tradition by Pt. Balasaheb Poochwale, she brings to the stage a distinctive artistry shaped by tradition, discipline, and individuality.
With rare compositions, stories, and anecdotes tied to India’s cultural calendar, ‘Ritu Parv’ offers a vibrant musical journey through the lived experiences, festivals, and seasonal rhythms that make India a land of both sound and celebration.
