The moving Hindi drama by Bhumika Dube follows a young woman’s journey of dreams, loss, and quiet strength against the traditions that seek to confine her.
Set in a 1950s Indian village, the story explores a young woman’s struggle between her own aspirations and the suffocating expectations of a patriarchal society. Written, created, and performed by Bhumika Dube, it follows Kela, a middle-class girl whose simple dream of selling jamuns in the city is shattered by social and religious constraints.
Superstition compels her family to marry her off to the very tree she once nurtured, sending Kela’s life into a haunting journey of duty, loss, and endurance. Years later, as she returns to the remnants of her village, she confronts the memories of the girl she was and the life that might have been.
Through wit, pathos, and intimate storytelling, ‘Kela Jamunwali’ emerges as a moving portrait of womanhood, resilience, and the quiet rebellion of dreams that refuse to fade.
