Dive into Badal Sircar’s gripping play, directed by Avneesh Mishra, as Sharat Chowdhury grapples with guilt and the haunting legacy of the atomic bombings.
What happens when silence becomes complicity? ‘Teesveen Shatabdi’ follows Sharat Chowdhury, also known as Shashi Bhushan Chaturvedi, a man haunted by the burden of history’s darkest chapter. Now wheelchair-bound and branded insane, he insists he is “defending the 20th century” through a surreal phone call from the 30th.
His wife traces the roots of his collapse to a profound dialogue with his physicist friend, Sadhan, years earlier. Together, they staged a mock trial of the atomic bombings, summoning historical figures to testify on the human cost of mass destruction. As the trial unfolds, Sharat is crushed by guilt and conscience, while Sadhan argues that ordinary people remain powerless, mere passengers trapped on a bus driven by a madman.
Written by Badal Sircar, directed by Avneesh Mishra, and produced by Rangshila Theatre, this searing drama is both a courtroom of history and a portrait of one man’s fragile yet unyielding humanity.
