Written and directed by Meghna Roy Choudhury, this Hindi and Bangla play explores the untold story of Rabindranath Tagore’s muse and sister-in-law, inviting you to witness the woman behind the poet.
Before he became the first non-European to win the Nobel Prize in Literature, before his verses moved the nation, Rabindranath Tagore was simply a young poet, shaped by love, loss, and one woman’s quiet presence. That woman was Kadambari Devi: his sister-in-law, confidante, creative muse, and closest friend.
‘Kadambari’, written and directed by Meghna Roy Choudhury, is a poignant theatrical exploration of the life and legacy of Kadambari Devi. More than a tragic figure bound to whispers of scandal, she emerges here as a woman of depth and spirit, whose influence lingers in Tagore’s early writings but whose own story has remained largely untold.
Blending poetic storytelling with layered performances, the play imagines Tagore composing his final song for Kadambari, piecing together a life remembered through fragments. It asks not just who she was to him—but who she might have been to herself, had history made room for her voice.
Featuring a powerful ensemble cast including Ipshita Chakraborty Singh, Priyanka Choudhary, Aditi Arora, Hrishabh Kanti, Aayush Thakur, and Abhijeet Vikram Singh, ‘Kadambari’ is a moving meditation on love, longing, and the ache of being forgotten.
(The show will have English subtitles for the Bangla dialogues).
