Journey into the world of immortals as Dr. Vasanth Kiran brings the eight Chiranjeevis to life through the grace and power of Kuchipudi.
In Indian mythology, eight Chiranjeevis—immortals—are believed to live until the end of Kali Yuga. This Kuchipudi production, choreographed and performed by Dr. Vasanth Kiran, brings their stories to life through Sanskrit shlokas and the expressive idiom of classical dance-drama.
The Chiranjeevis—Ashwatthama, King Mahabali, Vedavyasa, Hanuman, Vibhishana, Kripacharya, Parashurama, and Markandeya—are revered as embodiments of immortality and eternal presence in the spiritual cosmos. From Ashwatthama’s cursed wandering to Hanuman’s eternal devotion, from King Mahabali’s sacrifice to Vedavyasa’s wisdom, each tale unfolds in this piece with layered abhinaya, rhythmic precision, and narrative depth.
An acclaimed dancer, choreographer, and recipient of the Central Sangeet Natak Akademi Yuva Award, Dr. Vasanth Kiran is a disciple of Dr Vempati Chinna Satyam's Kuchipudi Art Academy, Guru Manju Barggavee, Guru Vempati Ravishankar and Guru Vedantam Ramalinga Sastry, and has performed in over 25 countries. In this work, he bridges mythology, philosophy, and artistry, transforming timeless legends into a performance that reflects immortality as both spiritual essence and living tradition.
This performance is supported by Reliance Foundation.
