Experience the elegance of mujra like never before as vocalist Smita Bellur and curator-narrator Suhail Akhtar Warsi bring timeless film classics to life.
Mujra, once an intimate expression of poetry, melody, and refinement, carries a cultural legacy that Hindi cinema has preserved through unforgettable songs. ‘Mujra Ek Tehzeeb’ returns to this world of raag and rang, revisiting classics from the thumri ‘Thaade Rahiyo’ to the ghazal ‘Dil Cheez Kya Hai, Aap Meri Jaan Lijiye’. Through narration, live music, and rich instrumental textures, the performance traces the cinematic journey of mujra while honouring its classical roots.
The evening is led by two distinctive voices. Hindustani classical and Sufi vocalist Smita Bellur, with over two decades of khayal training and acclaimed performances across global stages, brings rare depth to these timeless melodies. She is joined by Suhail Akhtar Warsi—poet, playwright, and cultural curator—whose narration threads the repertoire into the broader tehzeeb of Urdu and its lasting presence in the performing arts.
Together, they craft an evening that is both homage and rediscovery, a celebration of mujra as a refined art form, and its enduring place in India’s cultural imagination.
