Devyani Majumdar explores the enduring world of ghazal, weaving legendary poetry with contemporary nuances for an evening of lyrical resonance.
Ghazal has long been a vessel for love, longing, and reflection—a form where poetry finds its voice in melody. In this intimate evening, vocalist Devyani Majumdar takes audiences on a journey through the evocative worlds of Ustad Ghulam Ali Khan, Mehdi Hassan, Jagjit Singh, Noor Jahan, and more. With a blend of traditional instruments and contemporary arrangements, each rendition preserves the timeless charm of the genre while opening it to fresh sensibilities.
A trained Hindustani classical singer known for her versatility across bhajans, retro, contemporary, and ghazals, Devyani has performed across India and abroad. She has collaborated with celebrated artists such as Anup Jalota, Ustad Rashid Khan, and Javed Ali, and received honours including a felicitation by former President Shri Pranab Mukherjee. Her albums ‘Shyampiya’ and ‘Jazbaa’ have earned critical acclaim, cementing her reputation as a voice that bridges tradition and innovation.
Accompanied by Satyanarayan Paul on keyboard, Ashish Jha on tabla, Arshad Ahmed on guitar, Sangeet Mishra on sarangi, and Munna P Upadhyay on octopad & handsonic, with narration by Nita Bajpai, Devyani creates a rich sonic tapestry that deepens the expressive power of the performance. With her belief that “in an era of trends, I wish to be a classic”, she invites you to pause and lose yourself in an evening where poetry, music, and emotion intertwine in the enduring spirit of the ghazal.
