Embark on a poetic journey with Mohiniyattam exponent Sandra Pisharody, as mythology, literature, and folk tradition come together to celebrate the strength, grace, and spirit of womanhood.
Through mythology, poetry, and folk tradition, this Mohiniyattam presentation traces the many faces of womanhood – both mortal and divine. It opens with Niram, a Sopana-style composition honouring feminine beauty and seeking the blessings of Amma Bhagavathi, the Mother Goddess. The narrative deepens with a Malayalam retelling of Tagore’s Chitrangada, choreographed in the graceful idiom of Mohiniyattam to capture the strength, vulnerability, and inner turmoil of the warrior princess. The repertoire closes with Kurathy, a reimagined traditional piece by Guru Nirmala Paniker, blending folk elements and temple storytelling to depict Mohini, the divine enchantress, recounting the legend of Lord Ayyappa.
At the heart of this performance is Kerala-born Mohiniyattam exponent Sandra Pisharody, a long-time disciple of Guru Nirmala Paniker at Natanakaisiki Mohiniyattam Gurukulam. With over two decades of rigorous training, national and international stage presence, and notable recognitions including the Nalanda Nritya Nipuna Award and an ‘A Grade’ from Doordarshan, Sandra continues to carry forward the art’s lineage with both scholarship and artistry. This evening offers audiences a rare confluence of grace, storytelling, and the timeless spirit of the feminine.
