The mesmerising world of ‘MAYA’ brings a powerful experience, blending ancient myths, modern ideas, and profound philosophy. With its innovative storytelling style, the show explores the rich history of Kaavad while seamlessly merging tradition with contemporary concepts, sparking curiosity about its enduring relevance.
Inspired by the structure of the KathaSaritaSagar, which weaves stories within stories, ‘MAYA’ unravels mythical tales across intertwined realms of time and space. At its heart, the narrative follows Ram and Rahim on a journey to stop the powerful king Mahabali, whose quest to reshape the three worlds is both thrilling and thought-provoking. Each door of the Kaavad reveals new layers of MAYA, offering profound insights into themes of love, duality, courage, and moral dilemmas.
This performance is the result of a creative collaboration with visual artist Rohit Bhasi and enriching storytelling-focused discussions with Kaavadiya ‘Khojaramji’. Written primarily in Hindi verse, it blends meticulous research with artistic innovation, expanding the boundaries of Kaavad storytelling.
Presented as part of ‘The Kaavad Project’, this performance invites audiences to explore a vibrant cultural practice where mythology meets modernity, and timeless truths resonate with contemporary relevance.
