A shared glance, a mirrored gesture, a rhythm held in unison – this Bharatanatyam duet captures the essence of female friendship as it shifts across time and emotion. In ‘Sakhya’, Swarada Bhave and her mother, mentor, and co-artist Dr Swati Datar chart their own evolving relationship, moving from the innate intimacy of a mother-daughter relationship, through the disciplined rigour and profound mutual respect of guru and shishya, to the playful camaraderie of friends.
Their choreography, anchored in expressive abhinaya and precise nritta, becomes a quiet celebration of companionship that transcends age and roles. Trained under Dr Datar, Bhave brings youthful energy and sharp technique to the stage, while Dr Datar draws on decades of artistic experience and scholarship. Together, they offer an artistic dialogue in which guru and shishya become true sakhis.
