In a concert attuned to the twilight hour, Pandit Madan Oak and Pandit Mukundraj Deo explore the depths of an evening raga and the ease of a folk-inspired dhun.
As day slips into dusk, two acclaimed artists – Pandit Madan Oak on santoor and Pandit Mukundraj Deo on tabla – take centre stage for an evocative evening of Indian classical music. ‘Dusk Dialogues’ is a concert designed to mirror the emotional and temporal essence of twilight through a two-part performance.
The first part of the presentation features a full-length exploration of a classical evening raga, unfolding through the traditional progression of alap (a slow, meditative introduction), and jod and jhala (gradual rhythmic development), culminating in dynamic compositions set to varying taals. This section highlights the expressive possibilities of both santoor and tabla, staying true to the 7pm raga-samay theory.
The second part shifts into a light classical dhun inspired by folk melodies, marked by lyrical phrasing, lively rhythmic exchanges, and a steadily rising tempo that leads to an exhilarating finale.
Balancing depth and accessibility, this concert offers connoisseurs a return to the purity of form while inviting newer audiences into a richly expressive soundscape. Anchored in tradition yet deeply personal in interpretation, ‘Dusk Dialogues’ is a musical conversation between instruments, artists, and the hour itself.
