Let rhythm lead the way in this high-energy ensemble led by Satish Krishnamurthy, where mridangam, ghatam, djembe, and violin come together in a vibrant blend of tradition and groove.
An evening where rhythm takes centre stage, this percussion-driven concert draws the listener into a soundscape crafted entirely on tempo, texture, and beat. Eschewing melody as the main focus, it celebrates the rich, playful dialogue between traditional and improvised rhythms.
The ensemble features Shyam Kalyan on violin, R. Sakthydharan on ghatam, Shikhar Naad Qureshi on djembe, and Satish Krishnamurthy on mridangam. A student of Shri T.S. Nandakumar and Kalaimamani Shri K.V. Prasad, Satish is known for his command over multiple percussion forms, including thavil, kanjira, moorsing, ghatam, and konnakkol.
Blending instruments from Indian and global traditions – like mridangam, thavil, ghatam, tabla, western drums, and the eddakkya – the performance has evolved to include melodic touches layers violin, veena, saxophone, and voice. Beginning with invocatory shlokas, it builds into a series of intricate rhythmic compositions, culminating in an electrifying finale of korvais, mohras, and teermanams.
This performance is supported by Reliance Foundation.
