Dilip Prabhavlkar & Vijay Kenkre star in this part-funny, part-poignant human drama about two ageing friends who exchange their views on the fast-changing world through a series of letters.
In the quick-shifting times that we inhabit, little is said about those who struggle to keep up with changes – those old-fashioned characters who are a tad set in their ways, but also anxious to catch up.
Written by Dilip Prabhavalkar and directed by Vijay Kenkre, ‘Patra Patri’ has all the punchlines of a tongue-in-cheek comedy, kicking off when a long flight to Paris prompts the middle-aged Tatyasaheb to draft a letter to Madhavrao, his friend in Mumbai. Madhavrao responds, writing about the state of affairs around him, and thus begins the sometimes sweet, sometimes poignant, and mostly thought-provoking drama about two friends who turn to each other to try make sense of the increasingly alienating world around them.
The format is designed to be a mix of dramatic reading and power-packed performances, delivered to perfection by Dilip Prabhavlkar & Vijay Kenkre (actors), along with Neeraj Shirvaikar (performance text). The world around our protagonists, crammed with colourful Mario Mirandaesque characters, is brought to life by the talented actors, interesting sets, and Ajit Parab’s scene-elevating music.
