Step into a celebration of India’s timeless folk songs, where heartfelt melodies echo the joys, rituals, and rhythms of rural life, passed down through generations.
Songs once sung in fields, kitchens, courtyards, and cradles take centre stage in this tribute to storytelling, memory, and heritage. These lokgeet from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar capture everyday moments of rural life – harvest and homecoming, lullabies and weddings, devotion and longing – passed down through generations in rhythm and songs.
In ‘Maatee Ki Boli’, Dr. Shailesh Shrivastava blends her classical training with a deeply personal connection to the folk traditions of her roots. Having collected over 2,800 songs from across India – many learned directly from her grandmother, aunt, and other elders in her village – she presents a living archive, shaped not by text, but by memory and shared experiences.
Rooted in the Banaras gharana and enriched by years of study under maestros like Pt. Rajan Sajan Mishra and Pt. Narendra Sharma, Dr. Shrivastava’s performance bridges the refined world of classical music with the raw, heartfelt expression of songs passed down from ear to ear.
