Lose yourself in a dazzling fusion of poetry, music, and queer storytelling as this Lavani performance breathes new life into a beloved Marathi tradition.
Drawing from the rich heritage of Maharashtra’s Lavani dance, Bhushan Korgaonkar’s production reimagines the art form through a bold, contemporary lens. Known for its sensuous rhythms and socially charged narratives, Lavani has long embraced queerness – not just in its themes of love, longing, and desire, but also in its performance, where gender fluidity and artistic expression intertwine. This celebration of Lavani’s legacy brings dynamic storytelling and electrifying dance together, centering queer experiences that have always been part of its fabric.
Through an immersive journey of poetry, rhythm, and movement, the performance pushes the boundaries of caste, class, gender, and sexuality. By weaving humour, passion, and deeply personal narratives, it transforms Lavani into a powerful dialogue on identity, expression, and the freedom to love.
B Spot Production, the creative force behind this work, is dedicated to amplifying diverse stories and initiating conversations about topics often left unspoken. Founded by Mumbai-based writer Bhushan Korgaonkar, the collective brings together multidisciplinary artists – including Geetanjali Kulkarni, Kunal Vijayakar, Anita Date, Vikram Phukan, and Reshma Shetty – to craft performances that resonate beyond the stage. Their work extends into Lavani workshops, writing sessions, and cultural explorations, creating a space for communities to engage, share, and reawaken traditions in new and meaningful ways.
Here’s your chance to explore Lavani like never before!
