Celebrate the strength of the human spirit with Dr. Janaki Rangarajan, a leading Bharatanatyam dancer, as she pays tribute to women’s voices with her spectacular performance.
Catch the premiere of ‘When Shadows Sing’, an evocative solo Bharatanatyam showcase that delves into the inner landscapes of female voices long silenced by history. Presented in the classical Margam format, this performance weaves together a rich tapestry of contemporary Tamil poetry.
Through a moving exploration of themes like conflict, disrespect, and lost love, it illuminates how these voices find profound beauty and resilience through self-love and empowerment. Each verse resonates deeply, guiding you through a transformative journey where the shadows of the past are illuminated by the light of self-acceptance and strength.
Award-winning artist Rangarajan, a ‘Nadanamamani’ honouree, and a prominent promoter of Indian Classical arts, brings her distinctive style to this production. Trained by the esteemed Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam in her foundational years, she has developed her signature style over the past three decades, which honours the traditional essence of the art form while infusing it with modern flair. A skilled choreographer, teacher, and vocalist, her graceful and expressive performances have been recognised with numerous national and international accolades.
Come, witness the art of Bharatanatyam shine through the power of poetry!
