Discover the power of ‘Shakti’ with a stunning Odissi choreography that explores the shared attributes between goddess Kali and Tibetan Buddhist goddess Tara.
Witness the stage debut of a unique Indian Classical presentation that explores the various aspects of ‘Shakti’ through a choreography of exquisite movements.
Through a kaleidoscope of cultural elements, Odissi exponent Dr. Swapnokalpa Dasgupta and her troupe of talented dancers usher you into a divine journey – moving gracefully between ‘Kali Tandava Stotram’, composed by sage Adi Shankaracharya, to Shyama Sangeet, a genre of devotional music dedicated to goddess Kali originating in the eastern part of India. The narrative takes inspiration from the likeness between goddess Kali and the Tibetan Buddhist goddess Tara – who are both breath-taking manifestations of the divine feminine and share similar attributes.
Having started her journey under the tutelage of Guru Giridhari Nayak, Dr. Swapnokalpa Dasgupta also trained under Odissi legend Padma Vibhushan Kelucharan Mohapatra. The accomplished dancer, teacher, arts manager, and curator has been a leading force at the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA), Mumbai, and Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, London. She is credited with being the first Odissi teacher at the prestigious The Bhavans (London), where she set up a separate department and class dedicated to the genre.
