Discover the vibrant traditions of Kodagu brought to life through Bharatanatyam, celebrating its ancestral rituals and cultural essence.
In the misty hills of Kodagu in Karnataka, where tradition meets timeless beauty, lies a culture rich in stories, rituals, and resilience. Inspired by the ancestral songs and oral traditions of the Kodava clan, ‘Tales in Kodava’ blends indigenous heritage with the elegance of Bharatanatyam, creating a unique dialogue between rustic traditions and classical artistry.
This dance theatre brings the endangered Kodava Thakk language to the forefront, interweaving it with themes that embrace the land, its people, and their connection to nature. Ancient rituals are hand-held by contemporary poetry, leading into a world where culture and art coexist harmoniously.
Presented by renowned Bharatanatyam soloist and choreographer Shilpa Nanjappa, whose extensive research into Kodava traditions has shaped this production, ‘Tales in Kodava’ is a tribute to a vanishing language and the spirit of its people. With accolades spanning national and international platforms, Shilpa’s work exemplifies the power of dance to preserve and share stories that transcend boundaries.
