Prepare yourself for an extraordinary showcase of Manipuri dance styles and culture with the award-winning exponent of Nata Sankirtana, Yumnam Bhumeshwor Singh.
Experience a captivating fusion of grace and tradition as Singh brings the rich heritage of Manipur to stage through his exceptional artistry and masterful performance.
Known as ‘Sanaleipak’, or the ‘Golden Land’, Manipur’s cultural splendour is beautifully presented in ‘Mirror of Sanaleipak’. A Sangeet Natak Akademi and Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Awardee, Singh brings a remarkable performance that features a stunning array of dance styles, including Pung Cholom, Raas Leela, Thang-Taa, and Dhol-Dholok Cholom.
Both Pung Cholom and Raas Leela played pivotal roles in introducing Manipur to the world during and after the Second World War, and they continue to shine on international stages, defining the region’s cultural richness. Thang-Taa offers a thrilling display of sword, spear, and shield combat, while Dhol-Dholok Cholom showcases dynamic percussion with acrobatic movements.
The evening begins with Pung Cholom, an integral part of Nata Sankirtana recognised by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity since 2013. This will be followed by Thang-Taa, featuring exhilarating sword and spear fighting alongside traditional dance. Next, enjoy Dhol-Dholok Cholom, a vibrant percussion performance that evokes the festive spirit of Holi. The presentation concludes with Raas Leela, renowned for its elegant movements and striking costumes, highlighting one of India's most celebrated classical dance forms.
Join us for this immersive journey into the heart of Manipur’s cultural treasures.
