After captivating audiences with his 2021 release The Red Plant, Amyt Datta brings a workshop tracing his evolution as a guitarist and how he has reimagined musical possibilities over the decades.

Amyt Datta is a pioneering force in India’s independent music scene, renowned for pushing the boundaries of guitar performance and sonic storytelling. From his early days with the iconic rock band Shiva to his experimental work with Pinknoise and Skinny Alley, and his current genre-defying band Electric, Amyt’s artistry defies categorisation, blending elements of rock, jazz, psychedelia, and a deeply personal tone.

In this hands-on workshop, artists and students are invited to explore an evolving musical vocabulary aimed at deepening both creative expression and conceptual understanding. Designed for those with intermediate to advanced skills, the immersive session delves into Amyt’s unique approach – grounded in freedom, intention, and nuance.

The workshop will cover techniques for improving fingerboard familiarity, helping guitarists move fluidly across keys and scales. Additionally, Amyt will introduce methods for superimposing triadic ideas to unlock fresh harmonic textures. He will also guide attendees through playing over cadences to create greater harmonic interest and improvising over single-chord vamps – a hallmark of his distinctive, mood-driven style. Along the way, participants will gain insight into the artist’s creative mindset, shaped over decades of touring, producing, and constantly reimagining what the guitar can communicate.

Whether you are looking to break out of scale-based playing, understand deeper harmonic structures, or simply experience the thought process of a genre-blending innovator, this workshop promises an enriching encounter with one of the most esteemed guitarists in the country.
