Sarod maestro Pt. Tejendra Narayan Majumdar and violin exponent Vidwan Kumaresh Rajagopalan invoke a spirited jugalbandi of Hindustani Classical and Carnatic Classical music!
If there is one form of musical showcase that runs high on intrigue and adrenaline, it is a jugalbandi! And the repartee of rebuttals can’t get more spontaneous than with two maestros from diverse cultural backgrounds – Pt. Tejendra Narayan Majumdar on sarod, playing Hindustani Classical melodies, and Vidwan Kumaresh Rajagopalan on violin, raising the bar for Carnatic Classical. The spirited instrumental conversation is amplified by two tremendous musical forces, Satyajit Talwalkar (tabla) and Ananth R Krishnan (mridangam).
Renowned sarod player Pt. Tejendra Narayan Majumdar is a representative of the Senia Maihar school of music, the most notable exponents of which are Ustad Ali Akbar Khan and Pt. Ravi Shankar. After exhibiting exceptional talent in his early years, Tejendra was taken under the guidance of Ustad Bahadur Khan, with whom he trained for 18 years. His music is known for its Classical purity and deep sense of aestheticism.
Sangeet Natak Akademi Award-winning violinist Vidwan Kumaresh’s musical journey spans over 50 luminous years, and it is safe to say that he has created a paradigm shift in the way the world looks at Indian violin. Vidwan Kumaresh started out as a child prodigy who played his first concert at the age of five and became a Carnatic Classical sensation by the time he completed his 100th stage performance. He was the youngest violinist to be recognised as the official state artiste of Tamil Nadu. His music, characterised by melodies dedicated to exploring the dynamics of the violin as an instrument, has won both laurels and hearts along the way.
